The body of Brooks Edmund Hardie, 22, a missing duck hunter from Georgia, was recovered early Monday morning from Guntersville Lake in Alabama, where his kayak capsized over the weekend.

Hardie was an experienced athlete and outdoorsman who tragically drowned after his kayak capsized during a solo hunting trip on Saturday morning. Authorities have continuously searched the area since his disappearance.

A native of Bremen, Georgia, Hardie graduated from Bremen High School in 2021, where he starred on the football and baseball teams. A tragic duck hunting accident took the lives of his beloved son, classmate and teammate at just 22 years old.

Hardie’s high school baseball coach, Davis Russell, moved to praise the passing of a man who improved the lives of all who knew him, writing: “The world is a good place more because you were in it.”

According to authorities, Hardie launched his kayak around 8 a.m. Saturday into Guntersville Lake near Goose Pond Resort. When his ship capsized, he was pulled underwater and had no chance to recover. Search teams immediately began combing the lake but hope faded as hours passed with no sign.

His body was eventually located using sonar technology and recovered early Monday, bringing the crash to a tragic end nearly two days later. Investigators said Hardie was wearing a life jacket, but the cold winter water complicated rescue efforts.

As news of the drowning spread, Hardie’s close-knit Georgia community reacted with profound sadness at the loss of a talented and popular student-athlete. Bremen High School announced counseling services while praising Hardie’s positive influence.

“Please pray for Brooks’ family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” Bremen City Schools said in a statement. On social media, heartfelt tributes and condolences continued to pour in from classmates, teammates, friends and coaches.

At just 22 years old, Brooks Edmund Hardie leaves behind grieving loved ones including parents Jason and Amy and older sister Ashton. A fundraising campaign has been launched to help the Brooks family rest in peace. Although his untimely passing left many hearts deeply saddened, his enduring light and passion for life continued to shine.
