Even though he was out of the driver’s seat, Schumacher’s impact on drag racing continued to grow. He founded Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) upon his return to the sport, supplying cars to his son Tony Schumacher and other talented drivers. DSR quickly established one of the most formidable teams around the pits.
Behind Tony’s eight championships, DSR has amassedA total of 19 titles and over 360 race wins– production unmatched by any other NHRA outfit. The group, headquartered in Brownsburg, Indiana, also produces its own chassis, components and vehicles.
DSR made history by winning the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories in the same season four separate times, illustrating their dominance across categories. Many credit Don Schumacher as the driving force behind the development of drag racing in recent decades through his team’s pursuit of excellence.
Don Schumacher’s death leaves the racing world without one of its brightest stars and most dedicated contributors. Schumacher’s family asked for privacy as they grieve, while social media posts showed hundreds of people mourning the motorsport icon.

The flag will fly at half-staff and the drivers will clearly carry Schumacher’s spirit into next season and beyond. Everyone who loves racing thanks him for the indelible mark he left.
