Jeff Lailey Death – Buchanan School Calgary Principal Passes Away

Hayden Stanley, affectionately known to many as “Meatball”, a beloved staff member at Camp WOW, has tragically passed away. He was first introduced to Camp WOW as both a camper and wrangler with AFCC Cowboy Camps. Hayden Stanley, a longtime resident of Gilmer, Texas, was announced dead on Thursday, December 21, 2023.

SWCC Youth released a statement mourning his loss: “If you knew him you loved him. With great sadness, Hayden Stanley “Meatball” was tragically taken to his eternal Home. Although he is more ALIVE now than he ever was here, we miss him and pray for peace for his family.”

The statement went on to offer support: “If you had Meatball as your Wrangler at Cow Camp or knew him in some other way and need to talk, I’m available just call me. Meatball, until we see you again it was a pleasure to serve the Kingdom with you.”

Hayden Stanley was born and raised in the small town of Gilmer. He graduated from Harmony High School before experiencing Camp WOW for the first time. For the past three summers, Hayden dedicated his time to working on the WOW staff, most recently as the Green Team Leader on the Rockwall.

To the WOW community, Hayden “Meatball” Stanley was more than just a camp counselor – he was a friend, a confidant, a source of joy and inspiration for so many. Though his loss leaves a hole in the community, Hayden’s vivacious spirit lives on in the cherished memories of those whose lives he touched. The statement from SWCC Youth encapsulates the profound impact Hayden had: “If you knew him you loved him.” There is perhaps no greater legacy.

While coping with this tragedy will be difficult for all who held Hayden dear, the losses are greatly outweighed by the privilege it was to know him. We can take comfort in envisioning Hayden entertaining legions of angels with his humor and lighthearted soul. The rights friends make parting temporary; as the statement said, “Although he is more ALIVE now than he ever was here, we miss him and pray for peace for his family.” May we cling to the hope that this parting from our dearest Meatball is only for a season.
