Lautenbaugh served Nebraska in a variety of capacities during his decades-long public service career. He served as a State Senator, Douglas County Election Commissioner from 2000-2003 and local attorney.

News of his passing was announced on Facebook by Rod Edwards, Director of Government Affairs at The Conklin Company and a close friend of Lautenbaugh. “We lost a good friend early this morning. Scott Lautenbaugh touched so many lives and made friends everywhere. He would help anyone and could always cut through the B.S.,” Edwards wrote. with an amazing sense of humor. He was one of a kind and he is missed. Please pray for his family, closest friends and Laura.

Overall, Lautenbaugh was a well-known figure in the communities he served, making a tremendous impact both professionally and personally. He graduated from Omaha South High School in 1983 and went on to earn a B.A. from Creighton University in 1987, followed by a PhD in 1991. In addition to a prolific career, he is also a father of two children.

As Douglas County Elections Commissioner, Lautenbaugh oversaw the politically controversial redrawing of district boundaries for the Omaha City Council and Omaha Public School Board. His redistricting proposal was contested but was ultimately affirmed by the Nebraska Supreme Court with only minor modifications. This monumental achievement had a significant and lasting impact on local representation.
